MODERN MEDIEVALS: A Demonstration of Illuminated Letters by Christi Payne V
V
January’s meeting will feature a demonstration of hand-drawn versals decorated in traditional medieval styles. Christi will give a short lecture (a chance to take notes) and then settle in to making initials for attendees (a chance to ask questions and observe).

Christi Payne is a PSC member, a book designer, and has studied medieval illumination for over 20 years, after a workshop with Mark Van Stone ignited the passion. One of her favorite tasks is to sit with an illuminated manuscript and study the letters that decorate the pages, copying them to learn how they were done. She has demonstrated at The San Francisco Antiquarian Book Fair many times, as well as the Oregon State Fair and most recently at the Multnomah County Library’s 150th Birthday Party.

The Spring 2015 PSC Member’s Exhibit will be held at the Multnomah Art Center Gallery during the month of April 2015. Members are invited to exhibit artwork inspired by the theme of “play”: play on words, playful manipulation of letterforms, play with materials, poems, quotes or quips on play.

The calligraphic artworks, which can include broadsides as well as books, will be exhibited at the Center Gallery at the Multnomah Arts Center April 3-28, 2015.

Click here for the PDF of Guidelines and Entry Form for the show.

inkworks-postcard-1-1PSC member Diane Flack has a show of her work in the Streff Gallery at Marylhurst University during November and December. This show includes block prints, acrylics, small artist books, hand-made leather books and cards perfect for Christmas gifts. Streff Gallery hours are M-Th 8:30 am – 10 pm; Fri & Sat 8:30 am – 6 pm; Sunday 11 am – 7 pm.
